($11,611.03) CVNA options loss wash sales resulting in tax bill going for $0 to $7,445. Cant make this shit up.
Had a $11,611.03 loss trading CVNA call options in 2025. It generated wash sales turning it in to $7,445 taxes owing on this loss. Still trying to process and understand how wash sales can f\*ck option traders and if im stuck with this tax bill on my loss. Looking at my fidelity ledger and adding up the net proceeds of buying and selling of all CVNA call options its: -$11,611.03. Looking at the 1099B net realized gain/loss its: -$51,065.85. If you subtract the real loss (-$11,611.03) from -$51,065.85 you'll get $39,454.87 (which is $0.26 off from the wash sales number of 39,455.13 on the 1099b idk why, maybe some sort of rounding) Am I fucked? CVNA — P/C ratio 0.95. thats almost exactly split. nobody knows whats happening. IV is 250% so markets pricing like a 15-20% move but cant figure out which direction. this company was basically dead two years ago and just printed $942M net income. $75B now. ive been tracking options flow for awhile and I rarely see this many unusual trades with a P/C this close to 1. coin flip with massive conviction both sides ETSY — P/C is 2.26. way more puts. this ones directional. revenue $2.8B but net income just $52M. they already dumped Elo7. smart money doesnt like the $0.88 estimate, reports BMO RIG is the one I keep staring at tho. 7 unusual trades, P/C 0.22 which means calls are absolutely dominating. volume 252K contracts. insider ownership 12.3%. ESP positive. insiders loaded up + aggressive call buying + positive surprise signal... thats alot of things pointing the same direction for offshore drilling. could be nothing but its alot of coincidences. then theres VMC with a P/C of 24.2. twenty four. on the largest aggregate producer in the US. infrastructure backbone company and somebody bought an absurd amount of puts. IV only 26% so it was cheap to do. big bet the one that breaks my brain is CC (Chemours). ESP model says -1,100% (massive miss). P/C ratio is 0.047 (all calls). these two things cannot both be right. estimate is literally $0.00 breakeven. revenue $4.5B losing $324M. somebody is about to be very wrong and very poor . BBIO also has near zero P/C (all calls) but buying calls on a company with a going concern flag in their SEC filing is... bold lmao Positions: bought ETSY 55p 2/21, small. looking at RIG 5c weeklies but havent pulled trigger yet. no position in CVNA because 250% IV on a coin flip is not my idea of fun
