On Friday I bought SPX 6735p for $3.3 and sold it for $53.30 12 minutes later. Opened these positions on Friday: +1 SPX 6725c exp 10/17 for $22 +2 NDX 25050c exp 10/17 for $79 This was dumb. Been sweating all weekend. This stupid tweet may have saved me. If we open pretty green, my plan is to sell the SPX and 1 of my NDX calls, and let the other ride until Tuesday. I’m skeptical that we’ll see 3.4% up this week so I don’t think i should hold til Friday.

To the noobs who've not dealt with this before, before you flood into calls, realize calls in this scenario absolutely do not go up in value the same rate as puts do when the market goes down. Yes it's frustrating, and you'll be sitting there hoping that after it recovers 5 points it recovers 5 more because your calls barely went up, and then it won't go up and you'll end up holding them til they rot.

Every option has 4 core values: symbol, right (put/call), strike and expiry. DTE is days 'til expiration. It is the difference between expiry and the date you purchased it. Along with the core values, there are the "greeks". These are values that let you price an option. The main one we look at is "delta". Every options trading platform will tell you the delta. The delta tells you how much the option price moves when the underlying price moves. It's also a reasonable estimate for the likelihood of the option ending in the money. When the price of the underlying changes and makes the contract profitable, the delta will change, moving closer to 1.0 (or -1.0 for puts). When you buy an option, note the DTE and delta. Rolling means buying and selling contracts on the same underlying in one transaction. To take profit when the price of the underlying has changed, you roll your existing contracts into cheaper contracts with the same DTE and delta as when you originally purchased the contracts. You have now taken money off the table, but you also have contracts with the same DTE and delta as when you originally purchased the contracts.
