I thought this was going down in taco 1.0 but he never really got it off the ground, for a number of reasons. The thinking is that our 38+ trillion debt can only be paid by juicing more dollars into the system aka inflation, on purpose. There is an unrelated Japan liquidity crunch and I think helping Japan defend the yen helps accomplish taco admin's goal of devaluing the dollar. The Treasury can do this and sidestep the need for JPow to aggressively lower rates (for now). Stocks will eventually go up, global investment may go up, prices for everything will most certainly go up, housing values will likely not fall, but in the global macro sense, all those gains will be less than the gains the outside world/global economy will be making in currencies that are worth more. The strategy can go very wrong though, and maybe is already going wrong and having unintended consequences due to how global and connected we are; there's no undoing that. Price of gold and other global assets show maybe global investors are pricing that all in defensively or even as a counterattack. This has been tried a few times before and when you inflate everything, credit interest, medical debt, car payments go up (in the modern world), people feel the crunch and overthrow their government. This time may not be different...
