When the shanghai markets brought the price of silver above that it became 100% clear that silver was completely disconnected from fundamentals, I personally liquidated all my metals holdings then. Coupled with a surprise hawkish fed pick and a margin requirements being hiked again, a crash was easily foreseeable. GLD will likely still have a strong year, and it's likely silver recovers a decent portion of it's losses in the next 3 months, particularly if there are two rate cuts this year. Something you need to understand about the logic behind the retard crayon eating methods of investment - the principle is that you look exclusively at price action and the likelihood of certain price movements following certain other price movements. You do this under the assumption that past price discovery conducted by financial professionals repeats itself in the future, and you piggyback off that process to try and jump in regardless of the actual financials or outlooks. You're betting on being right often enough over a large enough sample size and time frame to outperform over the long run. Understand, THIS UNDERPERFORMS. Statistically, funds that follow these methods underperform the S&P 500. Individuals do even worse, because just a few outliers will ruin them and they do not have the ability to properly diversify for statistical purposes to favor them the way funds do. You will gain so much more understanding what you are holding than randomly guessing on vaguely understood concepts. There is a reason we call technical analysts crayon eaters, and that they are mocked by anyone who knows what they are doing, people trading on charts are always late to the party, don't know what they're doing or why they are there, and the ones to get screwed the hardest when sudden news hits.

Just barely got out of SLV and GLD in the green but not nearly what I could have gained. We’ll call it a good learning experience (and one that’s really obvious in hindsight, guess that’s how it goes). Still holding and feeling good about some physical I bought last January though.
