Dow is not proportional to market cap. A few big names dominate SPY and QQQ, so the indexes tend to track those big positions even if the smaller index components move in the opposite direction.

This down action on SPY and QQQ post-J-Pow really doesn't surprise me, and I played it almost perfectly with calls and puts. The exact sort of thing happened last year (I think); J-Pow sounded dovish, SPY immediately spiked 8 bucks...and then gave it all up a few hours later.

Anything could happen. All I know is back in April/May people said to sell gold and silver miners that they have no growth potential and that narrative has been proven false. Even the biggest market cap miners have smaller market caps than a lot of small tech. So the slightest amount of rotation into them can greatly influence stock prices unlike qqq
