You can use  photonics for faster data transfer but this is not the only point. Light dissipates less energy and the adoption of photonic processors could reduce the power consumption of current data centers. But while the former application is already well established, the latter one is still at a prototyping stage I think. But anyway what I wanted to know is which is exactly the narrative behind poet, which is something I didn't understand so far haha

Now, I have no doubt that photonics for ai will become a thing. However, there are a lot of big players already working on it, including, e.g., nvidia, intel, or ibm. What can POET do that these guys cannot already do by themselves? Which is your investment thesis about POET?

Well if you want to compare ASTS to POET (i don't own either one right now), the projected EPS of ASTS in 2027 is 2.44 (forward P/E 44) vs POET's 0.2 (forward P/E 415). I've been in and out of POET for 2 years, much longer than anyone here has heard of them. Its a good (maybe great) stock in the long run, but for the next year or so its a stock to trade, now own imo.

I love how POET should have a "reasonable" valuation but an unprofitable company like ASTS is worth $40 billion. Fundamentals don't matter anymore, just hype. Poet could reach $50-$100 this year depending on the right chain of events.

At its current price, in 2028, POET will have a P/E around 40 and a P/S around 5. Maybe drop a zero from the 200 target for a more reasonable valuation.
