SHANGHAI, Dec 17 (Reuters) - MetaX Integrated Circuits jumped 700% in its Shanghai market debut as the Chinese AI chipmaker tapped into strong momentum triggered by Beijing's push to reduce reliance on chips from U.S. firms Nvidia (NVDA) and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD).

The original 400k came from a mix of lucky crypto gains as well as a successful side business I ran in grad school and a lot of deposits from my tech job this year (the long term 200k is up a good deal due to strong market performance and a reasonably large nvda position), and yes I probably did get some money from my parents but never a large lump sum at once (probably never more than 5k or so at any one given time rather than a 100k+ lump sum, but it probably adds up to maybe 20-40k a year from them). Yes my parents are somewhat wealthy (low to mid 8 figures) since they’ve had successful careers as physicians and they paid for my education and a condo and I get to experience a lot of nice family vacations that I’d have no way of paying for on my own and I’m extremely grateful, but I don’t expect any significant lump sum of cash from them anytime soon nor would they be willing to give it to me, which is honestly probably for the good tbh since they know that it would probably really fuck me up and they worked very hard for their money and none of us want to see it gambled away. I totally understand that the mentality of trying to get rich fast is toxic and yes I probably need to put my age and where I am in my career in perspective even though I’ve been totally disillusioned by all the 20 year old tiktok and startup millionaires. I can still probably do really well in my career whether it’s simply climbing the corporate ladder or maybe doing my own startup one day, though yes I understand that I need to have patience and largely stay away from gambling since I don’t want to go down that spiral. Maybe I’ll have a completely different perspective in 10 years, but I understand that I really do need a mindset change.
