So out of curiosity I did math (lame) and: At 6% interest (normal around me right now), a 30-year mortgage on a $300k house (low end for a starter home here) with 20% down: 30-year mortgage: ~$1439/mo, $278k total paid in interest if you make that payment for the life of the loan 50-year mortgage: ~$1263/mo, $518k total paid in interest. You'd likely pay a higher interest rate percentage for the longer mortgage. No clue what those would be, but if it's 6.25% that goes to ~$1309/mo and $545k total. At 6.5% it's ~$1354/mo and $572k total. Surely this will solve the affordable housing crisis.

Honestly if inflation stays high, locking in the same payment for 50 years is insanely good. At 4.8%...
